DESCRIPTION:Join us for Healthy Athletes at Summer Games\, where Special Olympics Kansas athletes can receive free health screenings and wellness education while competing at one of the biggest events of the year. \nThe Healthy Athletes screenings will take place on June 6\, 2026\, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Maize South High School as part of the exciting Special Olympics Kansas Summer Games. \nHealthy Athletes® is a Special Olympics program offered at Summer Games that provides athletes with free health screenings\, education\, and follow-up resources in a welcoming and supportive environment. Through a team of trained medical professionals and volunteers\, athletes receive care across multiple health disciplines designed to identify unmet health needs and promote lifelong wellness. Healthy Athletes® helps athletes compete at their best while building healthier habits that extend beyond competition. \nAthletes will have the opportunity to participate in seven different Healthy Athletes disciplines\, including: \n\n\nOpening Eyes – Vision and eye health screenings \n\n\nHealthy Hearing – Hearing and audiology screenings \n\n\nSpecial Smiles – Dental health screenings and education \n\n\nHealth Promotion – Prevention and nutrition education \n\n\nFUNfitness – Physical therapy assessments for strength\, flexibility\, and balance \n\n\nFit Feet – Foot and ankle screenings and footwear education \n\n\nMedFest – General health screenings and sports physical resources \n\n\nVolunteers play a vital role in making Healthy Athletes possible. Hosted at Golden Plains Credit Union\, this unique event brings together families\, athletes\, law enforcement\, and local businesses—all in celebration of inclusion and the mission of Special Olympics Kansas. \nThe festivities begin with the Lemonade Battle\, where local groups and businesses compete for bragging rights and the title of Garden City’s Best Lemonade. Attendees can vote Red vs. Blue by donating to their favorite stand\, with all proceeds benefiting Special Olympics Kansas. \nNext\, lace up for the Torch Run\, a meaningful tradition where law enforcement officers and community members carry the Flame of Hope in a show of unity and support for SOKS athletes. This inspiring run highlights the heart of the Law Enforcement Torch Run movement. \nThe night concludes with Trails & Treats\, a family-friendly walk where kids can trick-or-treat along the trail\, meet first responders and athletes\, and enjoy activities in a safe\, welcoming environment. \nIt’s an evening full of flavor\, fitness\, and fun—perfect for all ages.
