SUMMARY:Battle of the Badges
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the annual Battle of the Badges Kickball Tournament\, a thrilling competition hosted by the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) for Special Olympics Kansas! This exciting event will be held at Hayden High School Gymnasium on October 13th. \nThe gates open at 12:00 p.m.\, and the action-packed tournament kicks off at 1:00 p.m.\, featuring teams from the Topeka Police Department\, Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office\, Topeka Fire Department\, and the Kansas Highway Patrol. These local heroes will compete head-to-head in an entertaining and fierce kickball showdown\, all while raising money to support Special Olympics athletes. \nIn addition to the kickball competition\, there will be a silent auction where attendees have the chance to bid on and win fantastic prizes. All proceeds from the auction and the tournament go directly to Special Olympics Kansas\, helping to fund training\, events\, and opportunities for athletes with intellectual disabilities to excel in sports and in life. \nBring your family\, friends\, and plenty of team spirit to cheer on your favorite first responders as they battle it out for kickball glory! \nWhether you’re there to support your local law enforcement or simply enjoy a fun afternoon of community competition\, your attendance helps make a positive impact. Be part of this special event and help us create a lasting legacy of inclusion and empowerment for Special Olympics athletes across Kansas. \nWe can’t wait to see you there!

SUMMARY:Healthy Hearing at Fall Indoor Classic
DESCRIPTION:Healthy Hearing is the audiology component of the Healthy Athletes program. The Healthy Hearing screenings were introduced to Special Olympics athletes at the 1999 World Summer Games. \nThe purpose of this program is: \n\nto screen the hearing of athletes;\nnotiify athletes and their guardians/care givers if follow-up care is needed;\nprovide custom swim earplugs if needed; and\nstudy the prevalence of hearing loss in athletes and individuals with intellectual disabilities (ID).\n\n\n\nAthletes are directed through screening stations which:\n\n\nconduct an examination of the ear canals for cerumen (earwax); and\nconduct an otoacoustic (OAE) hearing screening of both ears.\n\n\nIf athletes pass the OAE station\, they exit the screening area. If they do not pass then an examination using tympanometry (middle ear) and pure tone screening is conducted. Upon completion of the screening\, the athlete receives a copy of the screening report form\, which includes follow-up recommendations.\n\n  \nVolunteer here. \nLearn more about Healthy Athletes
