Join us on Saturday\, April 26\, 2025\, from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM at Shawnee Heights High School in Tecumseh\, KS\, where athletes will have the opportunity to participate in this free health screening designed to improve flexibility\, strength\, balance\, and overall physical wellness. \nWhat is FUNFitness?FUNfitness is a physiotherapy (physical therapy) screening that examines the flexibility\, strength\, balance \, and aerobic fitness of Special Olympics athletes and people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Dysfunction in any of these areas can result in pain\, discomfort\, and sub-optimal activity performance in sports and everyday life. During these screenings\, physiotherapists\, students\, and other related health professionals\, identify areas of concern in the above areas to offer education and expert guidance on suggested follow-up care including exercise recommendations\, sport-specific training tips\, and when appropriate\, referral recommendations. \nWhere to Find Us:The screening station will be outside under the tents to the left of the entrance to the track area. This Unified track meet will bring together youth athletes\, ages 8–21\, for a morning of fun\, fitness\, and friendly competition. \nThe event will feature a wide range of traditional and adaptive track and field events\, including sprints\, distance races\, relays\, long jump\, shot put\, and more. Athletes of all ability levels will have the opportunity to showcase their hard work and sportsmanship in a supportive\, energetic environment that emphasizes participation and personal bests. \nAs a Unified event\, the meet promotes inclusion by encouraging youth with and without intellectual disabilities to compete alongside one another\, highlighting the power of teamwork\, friendship\, and unity through sports.
