
Shirley, has been a vibrant part of the Wichita Independents team for decades, and her presence at Special Olympics Kansas events is impossible to miss. Now in her 80s, Shirley continues to participate in a variety of sports, including bowling and cheerleading, which are her favorites, as well as track and field, basketball, and many other events she has tried over the years.
Shirley is known for always giving her all, whether at practice or in competition. She shows up with a smile and a willingness to work hard, inspiring everyone around her. Coaches and teammates alike describe her as someone who approaches every challenge with determination, whether she’s perfecting her bowling technique, cheering on fellow athletes, or learning a new skill.
Beyond her athletic achievements, Shirley embodies the spirit of inclusion and camaraderie. She loves being part of the Special Olympics community and takes pride in every moment she spends competing, connecting with teammates, and supporting those on her team and those she competes against. Her perseverance and joy have made her a role model for athletes of all ages. It is our honor to have Shirley Strange join the Special Olympics Kansas Hall of Fame. Congratulations Shirley!
