Any Kansas resident can receive an SOKS plate.

 

A $40 contribution to Special Olympics Kansas is required when you purchase or renew an SOKS license plate. The contribution helps support athlete programs including sports training and competitions, athlete leadership programs, health and wellness programs and so much more!

 

The state of Kansas has changed to a new digital printing system for license plates. You’ll receive a temporary tag when you purchase a plate, and the new SOKS plate will be mailed to you.

 

Kansas county treasurers are authorized to accept the $40 contribution when you pay your annual state tag fees and vehicle taxes.

Anyone who loves SOKS! You do not have to be an athlete or family member in order to put a SOKS license plate on your car. Any Kansas resident can receive the SOKS plate.

Purchase a new SOKS license plate in person at your county treasurer’s office. In addition to a $40annual tax-deductible contribution to the Special Olympics Kansas and your normal state tag fees and vehicle taxes, a one-time special plate issuance fee of $45.50 to manufacture the plate is assessed.

The treasurer’s office will issue a 30-day temporary tag for you to use until your permanent license plate is mailed.

  1. You will receive your annual vehicle tag and tax statement from the State of Kansas.
  2. The vehicle tag and tax statement will include the $40 annual contribution required to maintain your SOKS license plate(s).
  3. You have the option of renewing your SOKS license plate(s) in person at your county treasurer’s office, by mail to your county treasurer, or on-line via the State’s website at www.kswebtags.org.
  4. Renewal can occur in a single transaction.

The treasurer’s office will issue a 30-day temporary tag for you to use until your permanent license plate is mailed.

Applicants must be Kansas residents who own passenger vehicles or light trucks that are registered for weight of 20,000 lbs. or less.

You may purchase a SOKS license plate at any time. However, to avoid paying a contribution twice in one year, the best time to purchase a plate is during your annual tag renewal process.

The Kansas legislation authorizing SOKS plates does not provide for personalization of tags with words or phrases. Tag numbers are randomly issued.

Kansans renew their license plates during certain months that are assigned according to the first letter of last names. However, you may register for a new SOKS license plate at any time during the calendar year.

If you purchase or lease a different vehicle, your SOKS license plate may be transferred to your new vehicle in most cases.  Transfers are handled directly at your country treasurer’s office.

Your license plate donation is 100% tax deductible as a charitable contribution. Contact the Special Olympics Kansas headquarters office for a donation receipt. Once SOKS headquarters receives confirmation of your plate purchase from the state a donation receipt can be issued to you.

Proceeds from the Special Olympics Kansas License Plate program will help fund athlete programs throughout the state including, but not limited to, sports training and competition, coaching education, athlete leadership programs, healthy athlete screenings, health and wellness programs, and young athlete programs.
