Meet Savannah!! Savannah’s journey with Special Olympics Kansas began in 2002 when she and her brother, Matt, joined the Dodge City Dodgers. From her very first practice, Savannah was hooked. She started with cheerleading, basketball, and bowling, eventually adding track and swimming. Over the years, bocce ball and cornhole were introduced to her club, expanding her athletic involvement even further. Basketball is her favorite!
Savannah has taken on leadership roles in addition to her athletic participation. She was selected for the SOKS Athlete Leadership Council and proudly serves as Vice Chair for the ALC. These roles have given her the opportunity to grow, learn, and make an impact on the Special Olympics community.
Outside of Special Olympics, Savannah is a dedicated mother to her three-year-old son, Cash. After working for 20 years in a nursing home, she decided to become a full-time mom! Savannah finds joy in spending time with her friends, library playdates with her son, her MOPS group, and Bible study.
“Special Olympics has enriched my life,” Savannah says. “I’ve made lifelong friends both locally and throughout the state. The Dodgers are like extended family. It’s also great for the exercise and the opportunity to travel with my teammates.”
Her message to anyone considering joining Special Olympics is simple: “I would encourage anyone to give it a try! It may take a few times to feel part of the group, but we try to make everyone feel welcome. When we are together, we don’t see age or disability—we just see friends.”
Savannah’s journey with Special Olympics Kansas is a testament to the power of sports & inclusion. We are proud to have her as part of our #OneTeam!
