Sport: Bocce
Hometown: Topeka, Kansas
For nearly three decades, Special Olympics Kansas has been a central part of Jared Molter’s life. Since joining at the age of eight, Jared has competed in a wide variety of sports, including track & field, basketball, volleyball, swimming, bocce, bowling, powerlifting, cheerleading, skiing, tennis, and cornhole. He is also a familiar face at the Law Enforcement Torch Run, proudly running alongside officers at the Kansas Capitol and helping with countless fundraising events.
Jared’s journey has not been without challenges. Born with a heart defect, he underwent open heart surgery at just eight months old and has dealt with potential heart concerns ever since. He also faced knee issues as a teenager and works hard to overcome communication barriers. But Jared meets every obstacle with determination, a positive spirit, and an eagerness to connect with people, especially law enforcement officers, who he deeply admires.
One of Jared’s proudest achievements came in 2002 when he was recognized as Most Inspirational Athlete. He has also been active in his community, from starring in a Topeka Civic Theatre production to decorating Christmas trees with his day service group and helping his church serve meals at the local Rescue Mission.
When Jared isn’t training, you can often find him playing video games, showing off his Guitar Hero skills, or hitting bullseyes with throwing axes and stars.
Attending the 2026 USA Games will be a dream come true for Jared and his excitement is contagious. “It means a lot,” Jared says. “I talk about it every day. I’ve never been to a national competition before.” Preparing for the Games will involve regular bocce practices with the Kansas team, learning new skills from his coach, and building independence as this will be his first time traveling without his parents.
Jared’s story is one of perseverance, community, and joy. When he steps onto the bocce court at the USA Games, he’ll be carrying love from Kansas with him.
