USA Games Athlete Spotlight: Tyler Tolleson

Hometown: Topeka
Sport: Golf

Tyler Tolleson of Topeka, Kansas, is heading to the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games with determination, heart, and a deep love for competition. A Special Olympics athlete for 13 years, Tyler will represent Kansas in golf, marking his first-ever selection to the USA Games.

Sports have always played a major role in Tyler’s life. In addition to golf, he has competed in basketball, volleyball, track, bowling, softball, and swimming. For Tyler, athletics are about much more than medals—they’ve helped him grow personally, teaching him how to make better decisions and manage his behavior both on and off the field.

One of Tyler’s proudest accomplishments is overcoming anger challenges so he can continue participating in the sports he loves. That dedication has paid off. He has earned numerous medals across multiple sports and was selected for SONA Golf two years in a row—a testament to his commitment and skill. Even more impressively, Tyler has bowled five perfect 300 games, an achievement few athletes ever reach.

Outside of sports, Tyler works two jobs, one at Burger King keeping the lobby clean and another at TARC TIES Sheltered Workshop, where he helps complete various contracts. In his free time, he enjoys fishing and previously volunteered at Helping Hands Humane Society, showing his passion for giving back to the community.

When asked who inspires him most, Tyler points to his family and his faith. His family has supported him unconditionally in everything he chooses to pursue, and his faith gives him strength and purpose every day.

As he prepares for the USA Games, Tyler is golfing as much as possible, practicing with staff and getting ready to train with a new golf coach. He’s especially excited to compete on the national stage and meet fellow athletes from across the country.

With perseverance, humility, and a love for sport, Tyler Tolleson is ready to make Kansas proud at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games.
