Meet Vin Byfield, a proud representative of Special Olympics Kansas from Salina, who will compete in Bowling at the 2026 USA Games. Vin has been involved with Special Olympics for more than 12 years, building a foundation of confidence, focus, and community through the sport he loves.
Special Olympics has opened doors Vin never imagined—introducing him to new experiences and helping him discover just how far his abilities can take him. One of the biggest challenges he has overcome is learning to stay focused during competition, a skill he continues to strengthen through dedication and practice.
Vin is most proud of two things: his bowling and his dog, both of which bring him joy and pride every day. His passion for sport extends beyond the lanes as well—he loves golf and disc golf, staying active and connected to his community in multiple ways.
When asked who inspires him, Vin immediately thinks of the bosses from his former job, who supported him, encouraged his growth, and helped deepen his understanding and love for bowling. Their guidance helped pave the path that brought him to this moment.
Making his debut at the 2026 USA Games, Vin says he “can’t put into words” how much this opportunity means to him. He’s thrilled for the chance to compete against athletes from across the country and is especially excited for “the competition” itself—something he truly thrives on.
To prepare, Vin trains with discipline, bowling two to three times a week, plus league nights, ensuring he gets as much practice as possible before heading to Minnesota. Outside of training, he works as a night clerk at Dillons, stocking frozen foods and contributing to his team with the same focus he brings to the lanes.
And a fun fact? Vin used to compete in powerlifting in high school—proof that his strength, both physical and mental, has always been part of who he is.
