Healthy Athletes: Special Smiles

Special Smiles is a Healthy Athletes® discipline that provides Special Olympics Kansas athletes with free dental screenings and oral health education. Athletes can receive oral health screenings, brushing and flossing instruction, fluoride varnish application, and access to mouthguard fittings. By increasing awareness and access to dental care, Special Smiles helps reduce oral health disparities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and supports healthier, more confident athletes—on and off the field.

Special Smiles screenings will take place from 9:00am-1:00pm at Emporia State University Student Rec Center, 1800 Morse Rd, Emporia, KS 66801.

THANK YOU TO THE FOLLOWING GROUPS WHO HAVE PARTNERED WITH SPECIAL OLYMPICS KANSAS FOR THE 2025 STATE BASKETBALL AND CHEERLEADING TOURNAMENT!

STILL NEED HELP?

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

In June, Team Kansas will represent our state at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games — competing against thousands of athletes from across the country. For many, it’s the biggest moment of their athletic career.

But here’s the reality: getting our team to Minnesota doesn’t happen without serious community support. Travel, uniforms, equipment, meals, and competition fees add up fast. Every dollar raised goes directly toward making sure our athletes can focus on one thing — competing their hearts out.
