For the past 15 years, Layne Warner has been a dedicated and inspiring athlete in the Special Olympics community. Competing in a diverse range of sports, including track and field, swimming, bowling, bocce, and snowshoeing, Layne has demonstrated remarkable versatility and commitment. Beyond his athletic pursuits, Layne serves as a Healthy Messenger, a role that has significantly boosted his social skills and physical activities, while also helping him conquer his fear of public speaking.
Layne’s proudest moments include competing on his own merit and being nominated to represent the USA at the World Winter Special Olympic Games. He is currently training by running to prepare for this prestigious event. Layne views this opportunity as a high honor and is excited to visit another country, compete at an international level, and meet fellow athletes from around the world.
Outside of sports, Layne works at Walmart in the Online Grocery Department, a job he finds fulfilling. He also enjoys playing video games in his free time. Layne looks up to his mom, admiring her independent nature and hard work. She moved across the country as a single mom to provide a good life for them, a journey he acknowledges was both hard and scary.
Describing himself as adaptable, headstrong, and caring, Layne is also known for his unique ability to make strange noises with just his mouth, adding a touch of humor and fun to his personality.
