A Special Olympics athlete for the past four years, Justin has competed in basketball, bowling, bocce, and softball, and remains actively involved beyond competition as a member of the Health Messenger and Athlete Leadership Council (ALC).
Special Olympics has given Justin a place to belong, helping him stay active while building meaningful friendships. Being involved has had a positive impact on his health and overall well-being, and it’s provided opportunities for leadership and connection within the Special Olympics community.
Justin faces challenges related to a heart condition that limits his endurance, especially during high-energy sports like basketball. Learning when to rest and managing moments of frustration when things don’t go as planned have been part of his journey. Through it all, Justin continues to show perseverance and a positive attitude, knowing he is a valued and important member of his teams.
One of Justin’s proudest accomplishments is the role he plays on his teams and within leadership. He currently serves as Secretary for the Athlete Leadership Council, where he helps represent athlete voices and support fellow athletes across the state. He is also the ALC representative for the Board of Directors for Special Olympics Kansas.
Outside of Special Olympics, Justin enjoys attending Joy KC events through his church, spending time with his family, following his favorite sports teams, and going to games whenever he can. He also stays active by walking in his neighborhood and enjoys reading.
Justin says his grandfather is his biggest inspiration, admiring his faith, kindness, and dedication to helping others. One of Justin’s personal goals is to visit every Major League Baseball stadium—he’s already checked off three of the 30 and plans to keep going.
Competing at the USA Games is something Justin is truly excited about. He’s looking forward to meeting athletes from across the country, representing Kansas, and being part of an unforgettable week with Team Kansas.
To prepare, Justin has been practicing regularly with his own cornhole set, studying technique through videos, and working with his coach to find additional local training support. With determination, leadership, and heart, Justin is ready to take the national stage and proudly represent Kansas at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games.
