USA Games Athlete Spotlight: Kayleen Walters

Hometown: Hays
Sport: Basketball

Kayleen Walters of Hays, Kansas has been involved with Special Olympics Kansas for an incredible 27 years, competing in the sport she loves: basketball. Throughout her time with Special Olympics, Kayleen has remained committed to staying active and pushing herself to be the best athlete she can be.

Kayleen says participating in sports helps keep her in shape, but the impact of Special Olympics goes far beyond the court. She is especially proud of the success she has built through the program and the opportunities it has given her over the years.

Off the court, Kayleen enjoys spending time at church and with her kids, who motivate her to lead by example. She hopes to show them what leadership looks like through her dedication, perseverance, and positive attitude.

Kayleen is extremely proud to be representing Kansas at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games. She has worked hard to reach this milestone and prepares by staying committed and never missing practices. Competing on this stage is an accomplishment she is honored to achieve, and she looks forward to representing her state.

In June, Team Kansas will represent our state at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games — competing against thousands of athletes from across the country. For many, it’s the biggest moment of their athletic career.

But here’s the reality: getting our team to Minnesota doesn’t happen without serious community support. Travel, uniforms, equipment, meals, and competition fees add up fast. Every dollar raised goes directly toward making sure our athletes can focus on one thing — competing their hearts out.
