USA Games Athlete Spotlight: Rebecca Shepherd

Hometown: Haysville, Kansas
Sport: Athletics (Track & Field)

Meet Becca Shepherd, a passionate and accomplished Special Olympics Kansas athlete who will represent the Sunflower State at the 2026 USA Games in Athletics (Track & Field)!

Becca has been involved with Special Olympics Kansas since 2010, starting with basketball and expanding into a wide range of sports. For the 2026 Games, she’s training hard in events like the 100m, 400m, long jump, javelin, and the 4×100 relay. In preparation for the 2026 USA games, she’s cut out soda, prioritized hydration, and is fully focused on her training.

“Special Olympics has changed my life for the better,” Becca shares. “It helped me be more active in my community and grow meaningful friendships that last.”

Her accomplishments off the track are just as inspiring. Becca is:

  • Vice President of the Health Messengers
  • A member-at-large with the Athlete Leadership Council
  • A public speaker and fierce advocate for her community
  • A former Miss Unstoppable 2020/2021
  • 1st Runner-Up for Kansas Senior Miss 2023
  • An active member of the Sedgwick County DD Community Council and I/DD Crisis Stabilization Advisory Board

Becca also works in Food Service for Haysville School District, where she’s been employed for 7 years. She hopes to begin classes at Butler Community College with an interest in sign language.

This is Becca’s second USA Games appearance. She previously won 3rd place in bowling at the 2022 Games in Orlando. Now, she’s ready to make more memories, meet athletes from across the country, and proudly represent Team Kansas in Minnesota.

“It’s absolutely amazing to be selected again. It means so much to meet new friends, experience new places, and create lifelong memories together.”

Let’s cheer on Becca as she sprints, jumps, and throws her way toward the podium and continues inspiring everyone around her!
