Rickey has spent a lifetime building confidence, friendships, and a love for sport through Special Olympics. Having been involved for 33 years, Rickey has grown up in the program, competing in a wide variety of sports including flag football, bowling, track & field, cornhole, golf, basketball, and powerlifting. Through it all, he has found what matters most—lifelong friendships and the confidence to push himself both physically and personally.
Rickey takes pride in staying active and challenging himself. Recently, he made the decision to try new opportunities by joining a different team, allowing him to compete in even more sports and continue growing as an athlete. His drive to stay busy and keep improving is a big part of what motivates him every day.
Off the field, Rickey enjoys giving back to his community by volunteering at his local library. He credits his parents as his biggest supporters, always making sure he gets to practices and competitions, no matter the circumstances.
One of Rickey’s favorite accomplishments is simply being successful and building strong friendships along the way—but he’s also proud of moments that showcase his determination, like surprising his teacher by memorizing the keyboard in school.
Rickey previously competed at the 2006 Special Olympics USA Games in track & field and is now preparing for a new challenge as he represents Kansas in flag football at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games.
With consistent practices and a new walking program to build endurance, Rickey is putting in the work to be ready. He’s especially excited to compete against teams from across the country and learn new skills along the way.
For Rickey, representing Kansas is an honor—and he’s ready to make the most of every moment.
