Special Olympics Kansas is thrilled to host the 2024 Special Olympics North America Golf Championship October 28-31, 2024, at the Crestview Country Club in Wichita, KS. The SONA Golf Championship will welcome over 250 athletes, Unified partners and coaches from the United States and Canada.

Tentative Schedule

Monday, Oct 28

2:00 – 5:00 PM: Bag drop – Crestview (north entrance)
4:00 – 4:30 PM: Coaches meeting – Crestview (Garden Room)
5:00 – 6:30 PM: Dinner – Crestview
6:30 – 7:30 PM: Opening Ceremony – Crestview
7:30 – 8:30 PM: Dance – Crestview

Tuesday, Oct 29
First Round
8:00 AM: Level 2 and 4 on North Course with a shotgun start
9:00 AM: Levels 3 and 5 on South Course with a shotgun start
10:00 AM: Level 1 on practice area with a shotgun start
12:00- 4:00 PM: Healthy Athletes (Health Promotions)

4:00 PM: Buses leave from hotels to Tanganyika Wildlife Park

5:00 – 8:00 PM: Park visit and dinner at Tanganyika Wildlife Park (twpark.com

8:00 PM: Buses return from Tanganyika to hotels

Wednesday, Oct 30
Second Round
8:30 AM: Level 2 and 4 on North Course with a shotgun start
9:30 AM: Levels 3 and 5 on South Course with a shotgun start
10:30 AM: Level 1 on practice area with a shotgun start
1:00 – 5:00 PM: Healthy Athletes (Special Smiles)
6:00 – 9:00 PM: Evening on your own (options for fun activities will be provided)

Thursday, Oct 31
Third Round
8:30 AM: Level 2 and 4 on North Course with a shotgun start
9:30 AM: Levels 3 and 5 on South Course with a shotgun start
10:30 AM: Level 1 on practice area with a shotgun start

Awards (please note that with Levels 3 and 5 starting at 9:30 AM, and assuming up to 6 hours for these rounds, awards will most likely not start until 4 PM)

Venue Information

Level 1 will be contested on the practice grounds, with Levels 2 and 4 on the North Course and Levels 3 and 5 on the South Course. Male golfers will play from the white tees, with female golfers playing from the red tees. Both the North and South courses will be open to the public each day approximately 1 hour after the conclusion of the Special Olympics tournament rounds. More information on the courses, below.

Offered in a welcoming, family-friendly, and fun environment, these health screenings educate athletes on healthy lifestyle choices. 

Special Smiles (oral health) will be offered October 30 & Health Promotion (healthy lifestyle habits) will be offered October 29. Healthcare professionals, students, or anyone interested can sign up to volunteer below.

One Team Charity Golf Tournament

The 2024 Special Olympics North America (SONA) Golf Championship is being held at Crestview Country Club in Wichita, KS, beginning the evening of Monday, October 28th. To raise funds in support of this event, we are hosting a charity golf tournament that Monday morning at Crestview.
 
This event is not only a great opportunity to have fun and support Special Olympics, but it’s also a great chance to get acquainted with some of the athletes who make Special Olympics such a unique and outstanding organization. Each team will be partnered with a golfer participating in the SONA Golf Championship that starts the next day.
 
By participating in the One Team Charity Golf Tournament, you aren’t simply ensuring that athletes have an opportunity to participate in sports, you are providing them with priceless life skills, independence and a sense of accomplishment.

Tanganyika Wildlife Park

On Tuesday, October 29th, join us for an unforgettable evening at Tanganyika Wildlife Park, one of the nation’s premier wildlife parks. After a day of golf, enjoy hands-on animal encounters, from feeding giraffes and penguins to interacting with lemurs. Tanganyika creates “wow” moments through experiences that inspire animal stewardship.

4:00pm – Load buses at host hotels
5:00pm – 6:00pm – Explore Tanganyika Wildlife Park (free animal feedings, exhibits and more!)
6:00pm – 8:00pm – Dinner, Special Animal Guests, Penguin Painting, Raffle and more
8:00pm – Buses return to hotels

Buses will depart from the host hotels at 4:00pm and return at 8:00pm. This event and dinner are included with your delegation and family registration.
