The Unified Pair of the Month highlights students from our Special Olympics Kansas Unified Champion Schools who embody the spirit of inclusion in their school community. This month, we are thrilled to introduce Brock Plumley and Reid Duff from Erie High School.
Brock, a dedicated Unified Athlete, enjoys watching trains and helping his dad. For him, inclusion means “I get to do what everyone else does.” Unified Sports has provided Brock with a platform to engage with classmates in meaningful ways, enabling him to build friendships and feel part of his school community. His favorite memory is winning a gold medal in cornhole with his partner Reid, which he recalls with pride and joy.
Reid, Brock’s Unified Partner, enjoys basketball, golf, and practicing his archery skills. For him, inclusion is about “allowing everyone to have a fair chance and feel like they belong.” Reid believes Unified Sports has enriched Brock’s high school experience and his own, helping them both grow as individuals. Reid is especially proud of their journey in cornhole, bowling, and track and field, where he and Brock have strengthened their bond through shared successes and memories.
Brock and Reid have been trailblazers at Erie High School, participating together in cornhole, bowling, and track and field. Their close-knit partnership has created a ripple effect, encouraging others to embrace Unified Sports and celebrate inclusion in the school. Stephanie Stark, their Unified Advisor, shared this about the pair:
“Reid and Brock have a very special bond. They support each other both on and off the field, and their friendship has encouraged others at Erie High to see the power of inclusion. I’ve seen both of them grow through Unified Sports, and they are inspiring role models for the entire school community.”
Together, Brock and Reid have shown that Unified Sports is more than just athletic events; it’s about fostering lifelong friendships and creating a welcoming environment for all students. Their favorite shared memory is their gold-medal win in cornhole, a moment that embodies their commitment to teamwork and mutual support.
