USA Game Athlete Spotlight: Brent Murray

Hometown: Hays, Kansas
Sport: Athletics (Basketball)

Brent Murray is ready to hit the court and represent Special Olympics Kansas in basketball at the 2026 USA Games! A proud athlete from Hays, Brent has been involved with Special Olympics since 2001 and has developed a deep passion for sports—especially basketball, bowling, and flag football.

Over the years, Brent has earned numerous Special Olympics medals, but what means the most to him is competing alongside his friends. “I like hanging out with my friends and meeting new friends,” Brent says. “I feel proud when me and my friends all do a good job.”

While losing games has been one of the biggest challenges Brent has had to overcome, it’s only made his love for the sport, and his determination, stronger. He’s currently training hard and focusing on basketball practice as he prepares for his first-ever USA Games appearance.

Off the court, Brent is a man of many interests. He volunteers with Meals on Wheels, enjoys hunting, fishing, jet skiing, and spending time at the ARC Park and arcade. His favorite hobby is shooting clay pigeons with a shotgun.

He’s excited to travel to a new city, meet fellow athletes, and represent Kansas on a national stage.

In June, Team Kansas will represent our state at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games — competing against thousands of athletes from across the country. For many, it’s the biggest moment of their athletic career.

But here’s the reality: getting our team to Minnesota doesn’t happen without serious community support. Travel, uniforms, equipment, meals, and competition fees add up fast. Every dollar raised goes directly toward making sure our athletes can focus on one thing — competing their hearts out.
