USA Games Athlete Spotlight: Joe Reed

Hometown: Hays
Sport: Basketball

Joseph “Joe” Reed of Hays, Kansas, brings energy, determination, and a sense of humor to everything he does—and that shines both on and off the court.

Joe is a dedicated multi-sport athlete, competing in track, soccer, basketball, volleyball, and flag football. Through Special Olympics, he has found not only a passion for staying active and healthy, but also a strong sense of belonging. He credits the program with helping him build positive friendships and learn what it means to surround himself with people who support and encourage each other.

For Joe, Special Olympics has been about growth. He takes pride in pushing himself harder, completing every task he starts, and continuing to improve as both an athlete and teammate. Whether it’s at practice or competition, he shows up ready to give his best and help those around him do the same.

Off the field, Joe enjoys making people laugh and giving back to his community. He works as a yard and delivery worker for a lumber yard, where his strong work ethic continues to shine. He believes in teamwork in every aspect of life—on the job, in sports, and in his community.

Now, Joe is preparing to represent Kansas at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games, an opportunity that reflects his hard work and dedication. He’s been training consistently, practicing each week, working with his team, and even helping raise funds to support the journey.

Joe is excited for the chance to compete, be part of a team, and experience something new. His motivation is simple but powerful—make others proud by working hard, taking on challenges, and never giving up.
